As Indonesia imposes a sales ban on Apple Inc.'s (AAPL, Financial) iPhone, the Chinese smartphone brand Oppo has announced the expansion and upgrade of its production facilities in Tangerang, west of Jakarta, Indonesia. The facility aims to manufacture a full range of phones, from entry-level to high-end models.
Under maximum production capacity, Oppo can employ 1,200 local workers and manufacture up to 2 million phones per month. The company also plans to increase local sourcing of smartphone components. Oppo has been operating in Indonesia since 2013 and established the country’s first smartphone production base in 2015. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Oppo expanded its operations further.
According to data from Canalys, Oppo holds the largest market share in Indonesia, with approximately 22% in the most recent quarter.
