Silicon Valley startup d-Matrix has announced the commencement of shipments for its first artificial intelligence (AI) chip, with plans for mass production next year. The chip is designed to enhance interactions with AI systems, enabling faster and more efficient responses in applications such as video generation and chatbots.

d-Matrix, headquartered in Santa Clara, California, has secured over $160 million in funding, including investments from Microsoft's venture capital division. Currently, early customers are testing sample chips, and broader availability is expected next year. While specific client details remain undisclosed, d-Matrix confirmed that Supermicro will offer servers equipped with d-Matrix chips.

The company's chips aim to complement AI chipset giants like Nvidia, whose technologies primarily focus on training AI systems with large datasets. In contrast, d-Matrix's chips are tailored for "inference"—rapidly processing user requests after the system has been trained. The chips are adept at handling numerous user requests simultaneously on a single chip, efficiently managing tasks even as users demand new responses or video adjustments.

d-Matrix CEO Sid Sheth highlighted significant interest in applications related to video, stating that customers wish to generate videos that allow individual user interactions. This burgeoning demand underscores the chip's ability to meet the evolving needs of innovative digital experiences.
