Tesla, the American electric vehicle manufacturer, announced a 4% wage increase for all employees at its Berlin Gigafactory starting from early November. This decision follows an announcement made a month earlier, where Tesla said it would provide permanent positions to 500 temporary workers from November 1.
The Berlin Gigafactory, Tesla's only Gigafactory in Europe, employs approximately 12,000 people. Despite the ongoing discussions of layoffs and factory closures in many companies within the German automotive industry, Tesla's move to boost wages and secure jobs is a positive development for its workforce.
Tesla's HR chief, Erik Demmler, highlighted the significance of this development for employees amidst the current industry trends. It was also noted that the IG Metall union, often critical of labor conditions at the Berlin Gigafactory, did not participate in this decision.
