Elon Musk, the founder of Neuralink, recently expressed that the company's innovative brain-computer interface products could become as affordable as an Apple Watch. During a recent neurosurgeons' conference, he shared that these brain implants should not be unaffordable. Musk suggested that with mass production, the cost of these implants could align with those of an Apple Watch or a smartphone, potentially ranging from $1,000 to $2,000.
Musk also discussed a streamlined surgical procedure he dubbed the "600-second surgery." He envisions a process where patients could receive the implant while seated, with the entire procedure taking just ten minutes. This approach aims to ensure efficiency without any physical law violations, according to Musk.
In July, Musk outlined Neuralink's ambitious goal to implant 1,000 brain chips by 2026. If his vision of affordable brain implants becomes a reality, it could revolutionize the brain-computer interface market, making this advanced technology accessible to a broader audience.
