Charles Brandes (Trades, Portfolio) is the chairman of Brandes Investment Partners, the firm he started in 1974. In both fourth quarter 2015 and first quarter 2016, the guru bought shares in the following stocks:

Endeavour Silver Corp. (EXK)

During Q4 2015, the fund increased its stake by 39.21% and in Q1 2016, again bought shares in the company with another increase of 99.97% of its stake. The fund currently holds 0.04% of outstanding shares of the Canadian mineral company.Â

Net earnings increased 35% from the first quarter of 2015 but Ebitda decreased 47% from the same quarter of a year before.

The largest shareholder among the gurus is Jim Simons (Trades, Portfolio) with 2.54% of outstanding shares.

Gold Resource Corp. (GORO)

During Q4 2015, the guru increased his stake by 11.80% and in Q1 2016, again bought shares in the company with another increase of 148.71% of the stake. The fund currently holds 0.07% of outstanding shares of the company. It is a producer of metal concentrates that contain gold, silver, copper, lead and zinc at its El Aquila Project in Mexico.

During the first quarter, the company reported production of 6,463 ounces of gold and 434,142 ounces of silver, which generated $17.4 million in net revenue for the quarter.

Jim Simons (Trades, Portfolio) is the largest shareholder of the company among the gurus with 2.86% of outstanding shares, followed by Paul Tudor Jones (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.12%.

Hovnanian Enterprises Inc. (HOV)

During fourth quarter 2015, the fund increased its stake by 60.31% and in Q1 2016, again bought shares in the company with another increase of 109.83% of its stake. The fund currently holds 0.03% of outstanding shares of the company that designs, constructs, markets and sells single-family detached homes, attached townhomes and condominiums.

During the second quarter, total revenues had an increase of 39.6% from the second quarter of fiscal 2015, and total interest expense as a percentage of total revenues was 7.0% during the second quarter of fiscal 2016, a decrease of 50 basis points year over year.

Higher One Holdings Inc. (ONE)

During Q4 2015, the guru increased its stake by 40.84% and again by 226.98% in first quarter 2016. The fund currently holds 0.1% of outstanding shares of the company that provides technology-based refund disbursement, payment processing and data analytics services to higher education institutions and students.

During the first quarter, gross revenue decreased 9.7% and the company recorded net income of $3.7 million for the first quarter of 2016.

Jim Simons (Trades, Portfolio) is the largest shareholder of the company among the gurus with 1.18% of outstanding shares, followed by Paul Tudor Jones (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.08%.

Alexander & Baldwin Inc. (ALEX)

The fund currently holds 0.04% of outstanding shares of the company engaged in real estate development, real estate leasing, materials and construction, and agribusiness.

During the last quarter, diluted EPS was 40 cents compared to 39 cents for the first quarter of 2015, and gross margin increased 350 basis points to 48.3%, compared to 44.8% for the first quarter of a year before.

Its products include steel, fibre and plastic drums, intermediate bulk containers and closure systems for industrial packaging.

During the last quarter, gross profit margin improved to 20.7% from the second quarter of 2015.
