Andreas Halvorsen Focuses On Wayfair In Fourth Quarter

Wayfair Inc. (W, Financial) apparently was guru Andreas Halvorsen (Trades, Portfolio)’s stock of choice in the fourth quarter.

Halvorsen, a Norwegian-born CEO of Connecticut-based hedge fund Viking Global Investors, made five separate transactions involving Wayfair, a Boston-based ecommerce company, in the quarter, a trend that has continued into January 2015.

He added Wayfair to his portfolio on Oct. 1 with the purchase of 1,750,236 shares for an average price of $26.41. He sold roughly one-third of his stake the next day for an average price of $37.72 per share. He then added to his stake on three separate occasions in November for average prices that ranged from $23 to $26.01 per share.

The initial investment in Wayfair had a 0.2% impact on his portfolio, and the sale of one-third of his stake had a -0.13% impact on his portfolio.

Manning & Napier Advisors, Inc also bought Wayfair stock in the fourth quarter.

Halvorsen added another company to his portfolio in the fourth quarter – Avis Budget Group Inc (CAR, Financial), the New Jersey-based parent company of Avis Rent a Car System, Budget Rent a Car, Budget Truck Rental, Payless Car Rental and Zipcar. Halvorsen paid an average price of $57.63 per share. That had a 1.43% impact on his portfolio.

Gurus Whitney Tilson and Larry Robbins (Trades, Portfolio) also bought stock in Avis Budget Group in the fourth quarter.

Halvorsen also added to his stake in Pioneer Natural Resources Co (PXD, Financial), an oil and gas company based in Irving, Texas, in the fourth quarter. Halvorsen paid an average price of $164.78 per share. It had a 2.11% impact on his portfolio.

Manning & Napier Advisors also invested in Pioneer Natural Resources in the fourth quarter.
