Madison Investment Holdings Inc. is an investment management firm based out of Madison, Wisconsin. The company was established in 1974 by founder Frank Edward Burgess, who continues to have an active role in the company today as its portfolio manager and Chairman. Madison Investment Holdings has grown from its inception to now have 75 employees. The company now holds over $16.1 billion in total assets under management from hospitals, foundations, endowments, religious organizations, corporations, municipalities, unions, financial institutions and insurance companies. Madison Investment Holdings is employee owned with Frank Edward Burgess holding the controlling majority and the remaining shares split amongst Madison Investment Advisors Inc., Michael J. Schlageter, Jay R. Skelsky, and other various key executives, in order of decreasing ownership. The company conducts its research internally and utilizes a quantitative and fundamental analysis to make its investments. Madison Investment Holdings follows a bottom up investment approach and invests in the growth stocks of mid to large cap companies in the public equity and fixed income markets of the United States. The company mainly invests in the finance sector, which alone makes up over a third of its total asset allocations, and also invests in the consumer discretionary, information technology, health care, industrials, and consumer staples sectors, among others to a lesser degree, in order of decreasing asset allocations. Other than the company’s top holding in iShares Trust - Core S&P Mid-Cap 400 Exchange Traded Fund, none of its holdings exceed 3% of its total asset allocations with its top 10 holdings making up just under a fifth of its total holdings. Madison Investment Holdings currently offers a wide variety of mutual funds to its clients including its Core Bond, Corporate Bond, High Income, Covered Call and Equity Income, International Stock, Aggressive Allocation, and various small, mid, and large cap growth and value funds, among others.
