Windhaven Investment Management is a private investment management company based out of Boston. The company was founded in 1994 and is currently headed by Bryan Olson, who joined the company in 2010 and acts as the President and CEO. Windhaven Investment Management currently operates as a subsidiary of Schwab Holdings, Inc. and has locations in Scottsdale, Indianapolis, Chicago, San Francisco, Winston-Salem, Menlo Park, and Austin. The firm’s mission is to “achieve attractive risk-adjusted returns over the long term by capturing a portion of growth in rising markets while attempting to reduce exposure to market declines over full market cycles.” Windhaven Investment Management utilizes its proprietary Global Strategies Model to make its investment decisions, analyzing over 40 asset classes in its internal research including equities, government bonds, hard assets, currencies, real estates, and across various global markets and ranking its asset classes based on returns over a 12 month period. The company currently has over $16 billion in assets under management spread across over 50,000 accounts with all of the accounts being discretionary. Both of its total assets under management and accounts held have been rising in recent years, with its assets growing from under $5 billion five years ago to over three times that amount today and its total number of accounts reflecting that growth in its increase from 7,000 accounts. The company mainly caters to individual clients, which alone make up over half of its client base and almost a third of its total assets managed, and also provides its services to high net worth individuals, state or municipal government entities, corporations, pooled investment vehicles, charities, pension and profit sharing plans, and investment advisors, among others, in order of decreasing clientele. Windhaven Investment Management currently has 57 employees including 34 advisors and offers three strategies; its Diversified Conservative, Diversified Growth, and Diversified Aggressive.
