WHV Investment Management is an investment management firm based out of San Francisco. The company was established in 1937 by William Wentworth and initially provided investment counselling to individuals. In 1945, the company would begin providing services to tax ecempt institutional accounts. Kurt Hauser and Paul Violich would join the firm after leaving Brundage, Story and Rose in New York and the firm’s name would be officially changed to Wentworth, Hauser and Violich in 1975. In 2012, the company decided to shorten its name from Wentworth, Hauser and Violich to simply WHV Investment Management and began to expand into a multi-boutique asset manager in 2013. The company is currently headed by President and CEO Andrew Laird Turner and has grown to 56 employees of which 7 are investment professionals located in Seattle and Denver on top of its headquarters. WHV Investment Management utilizes a bottom up investment approach with a fundamental methodology, investing in the growth oriented stocks of micro to large cap companies. The company invests in the public equity and fixed income markets on a global scale, benchmarking its performance against various Russell, S&P, and MSCI Indexes. WHV Investment Management currently operates as a subsidiary of Laird Norton Investment Management, Inc. The company invests most heavily in the energy sector, which alone makes up over a third of its total asset allocations, and also invests in the materials, transports, industrials, and consumer staples sectors, among others to a lesser degree, in order of decreasing allocation. WHV Investment Management currently holds over $8.4 billion in total assets under management spread across over 10,400 accounts, all of which are discretionary except for 16 which make up $1.5 billion of its assets. The company mainly provides to individuals and offers a variety of strategies and funds including its Small Cap Equity, Tactical Credit Long/Short, and International Equity offerings.
